Required Items List:
1. ST Plastic Fiber Optic Patch Cord (POF)
2. ST Coupler/Adapter
3. Fiber Optic Cutter (POF Dedicated)
4. Cleaning Swabs and Alcohol
5. Fiber Optic Tester or Red Light Pen
6. Wire Stripper (POF Dedicated)
Detailed Installation Steps
Step 1: Inspect the Fiber Optic Patch Cord and Connector
Confirm the patch cord type is plastic fiber (POF).
Check that the ST connector ferrule is clean and free of scratches.
Confirm that the fiber end face is free of cracks and contamination.
Step 2: Prepare the Fiber End Face
Use POF-specific wire strippers to strip approximately 20mm of the fiber optic sheath.
Gently clean the bare fiber with a lint-free cloth dampened with alcohol.
Use a plastic fiber optic cleaver to vertically cut the fiber end face.
Note: The POF cutting method differs from that of glass fiber; a dedicated tool is required.
Step 3: Clean the Connector
Take a dedicated fiber optic cleaning swab and apply a small amount of high-purity... Isopropyl alcohol
Gently insert the ST connector ferrule and rotate in one direction to clean.
Wait 10-15 seconds for the alcohol to completely evaporate.
Step 4: Connect the fiber optic patch cord
Identify the ST connector keyway orientation.
Align the ST connector with the coupler socket.
Insert the connector until you feel slight resistance.
Rotate the outer ring of the connector clockwise approximately 90° until you hear a "click" or feel it lock in place.
Step 5: Installation Completion Check
Gently pull the patch cord to check for a secure connection.
Ensure the fiber optic bending radius is greater than the POF minimum bending radius (typically 25mm).
Check the patch cord for twisting or excessive tension.
Testing and Verification
Connection Test Methods
Red light pen test: Connect a red light pen to one end and observe if there is red light output at the other end.
Power meter test (recommended): Measure end-to-end optical power loss.
Typical loss of plastic optical fiber: 0.2-0.5 dB/Connection Point
Equipment Connection Test: Connect to the actual device and check the link status indicator.

Troubleshooting
Problem Phenomenon | Possible reason | Re solvent |
No light signal | The connector is not locked. | Reinsert and tighten the ST connector. |
Weak signal | End contamination | Clean both ends of the connector. |
Unstable signal | Excessive fiber bending | Inspect the wiring and eliminate sharp bends. |
Difficulty in plugging and unplugging connectors | Coupler damage | Replace the coupler. |
Precautions and Maintenance
Special Precautions for Plastic Fiber Optics
**Avoid Excessive Bending:** POF is more brittle than glass fiber; maintain a minimum bending radius.
**Temperature Limitations:** POF operating temperature is typically -40°C to +85°C.
**Cleaning Specials:** Clean only with alcohol; do not use other chemical solvents.
**Installation Force:** Do not apply excessive force when tightening ST connectors to avoid damaging plastic components.
**Match Protection:** Always cover with the dust cap when not in use.
